Building a Letterboxd Profile

Creating a Letterboxd profile to review films is one of the easiest ways to conduct research or write about the topic of film studies. Creating your account is as simple as just looking up Letterboxd. Once you have completed your search click the first link and click get started it's free on the webpage. After selecting this you will be prompted to create an account, and after you create your account you will have full access to a movie lover’s heaven. After you create your profile you will have the option to start a list of movies you’ve seen, a list of films and some popular reviews, lists of movies that are related, popular members and their reviews, and journal articles about movies. To start building your Letterboxd portfolio simply click log and type in the name of your favorite movie. After you have found your favorite movie you will be prompted to fill out information such as when you saw the movie, if you have seen the movie before, a review of the movie, a rating of the movie, and if you liked the movie.


Once you fill out this information it will be added to your page for other movie fanatics. After filling out your first review you can continue to fill out information for other movies that you have seen and connect with others about those films. If you are having trouble writing your review check out the members or journal tabs. The members tab will allow you to see people that have seen a plethora of films have left several reviews, and have created lists. After seeing the reviews that some of these people have left you can implement the ways they review films into your reviews. The journal tab allows you to see articles that are written by journalists, filmmakers, and other people who have experience in the film industry. Looking at the way these people write reviews about films will help you understand how to write on the broad topic of film studies. The journal tab can also help you learn how to conduct research on the topic of film studies as the articles that are published were written by people who have done research on this topic.


Seeing what people include in their articles and some of the research that they did will help you with writing on the topic of film studies and doing research on the topic. The lists tab will allow you to see a variety of lists that other members of Letterboxd have created. These lists will have a title and a plethora of movies under them that fit with that title. Seeing lists that other people have created, and the movies they have put under those lists will help you conduct research on things such as genre in the topic of film studies. Letterboxd offers a great opportunity for you to not only connect with people who have seen the same movies as you but also learn how to write and do research on the topic of film studies.
